![]() Speaking to MassivelyOP, Jacobs notes that Colossus has been a vital part in keeping Camelot funded. Jacobs does occasionally mention how the development of Ragnarok: Colossus - which began last July - has assisted with CU's matchmaking and server stability. In the entire three-hour stream, very little info is given on the long-suffering MMO. (Gameplay demo kicks off at roughly 1:27:00) It is also, notably, not Camelot Unchained. From the gameplay shown, it looks rather Smite-y, but with way more mooks to smash. The DAoC and Warhammer: Online vet is still going for massive battles, but Ragnarok is set to be an entirely PvE affair - slaughtering thousands of AI foes and defending towers on a huge battlefield. But with no release in sight for the long-awaited castle-crasher, CSE is offering its new game to backers for free, insisting its development is a vital part of building Camelot's massively multiplayer keep.ĭesign chief Mark Jacobs took to a YouTube stream this week to announce Final Stand: Ragnarok (or Ragnarok: Colossus, or simply Colossus), City State's brand new smash 'em up (cheers, Eurogamer). It only rocketed past its two million dollars crowdfunding target a whole seven years ago. The thing is, City State were kinda supposed to still be working on Camelot Unchained, a reimagining of fort-fightin' MMORPG Dark Age Of Camelot. I'm a huge fan of MMO's (like all of us here) and when new innovate ones popped up on Kickstarter years ago I was so happy. This week, City State Entertainment announced a new game. I've followed three closely and all have had major issues I've covered, most recently with Camelot Unchained. You may have seen my coverage of Ashes of Creation: or Crowfall: Īnd these were the three I though had the most potential, after ignoring Shroud of the Avatar and Chronicles of Elyria. So are ANY Kickstarter MMO's actually doing well in good shape? Crowfall has kind of turned it around, but their engine is so bad I think it will flop. Star Citizen is still plugging away, and I think it will be great in another 10 years.īesides the current MMO options (WoW, FFXiV, ESO, GW2) are there any MMO's coming that will be good? We were spoiled by the early 2000-2010 with a seemingly new MMO every year. I bet if Wildstar had come out today it would be a huge success. I'm so desperate I'm holding out hope for Diablo 4 and its MMO elements.Ĭrowfall release is imminent but I'm not really convinced it'll succeed. I personally still find the combat/movement pretty clunky. It's getting better but there's a lot of problems left unanswered still. IMO, the PVP is kind of a messy zergfest, and I always wondered how games like Crowfall/Camelot Unchained plan to address things like clarity. When it releases and I try it out I'll definitely be looking for small skirmishes and avoiding massive battles, at least as it stands now. I like the idea a lot of the timed campaigns + persistent world but I'm concerned mostly about the technical aspects of this game and visual clarity. Pantheon has been doing a good job of keeping the community informed and seems to be progressing well but it's still years from launch. I still have some faith in this project and it's the one game I'm personally hoping succeeds.Īshes of Creation I'm convinced is a scam. Have had 0 faith in the project since the beginning. Would be a pleasant surprise to be wrong on this one but I'm expecting literally nothing. OrbusVR is pretty much the definitive VR MMO. Very cool game but it's been awhile since I've played it so I can't comment on it's progress lately. If you have a VR setup and enjoy the social aspect of MMOs, Orbus is a really cool and unique experience.Ĭamelot Unchained I don't really know what to think. I want to have faith but at this point I'm not confident at all. I didn't pledge for this game so I haven't tried it at all and haven't been following it too closely but after all these years they don't seem to have much to show still. Project Gorgon I'm a big fan of but unfortunately I haven't been able to convince any of my friends to buy-in so I don't really play it much. Can't say I'm surprised though, it's definitely not for everyone. Gloria Victis is progressing well and they've made massive improvements to animations and fluidity of the combat/movement. Unfortunately I don't think this game will ever be much more than a niche product but if you enjoy the theme and gameplay it can be a lot of fun, especially if you find a good group to play with. Population is small though.Ĭhronicles of Elyria.
